Chickvic
We're trying to find a nice simple shortbread recipe, we tried one today and it wasn't a resounding success Does anyone have a really good recipe that works? We're willing to try again
Lesley
I use a creamed recipe and it makes lovely biscuits. 2 oz caster sugar 4 oz soft butter 8 oz plain flour Cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Add the flour and mix well with a wooden spoon. Roll out on a floured surface to a 1/4 inch thickness and cut out 2" rounds. Bake at 190C for 18-20 minutes until a very pale golden colour (hardly any colour) Sprinkle with extra sugar while hot and place biscuits on a wire rack to cool. Makes 20 biscuits - I usually make double the amount
Chickvic
Thanks Lesley, do you use salted or unsalted butter? Think we will try again tomorrow!

Chickvic
We made the shortbread today, my niece was round to help , and it was lovely - much better than our previous attempt!

chuckmum6
YS and I have just put some in the oven, we will let you know how they turn out! He made some unusual shapes as he wasn't too keen on circles.
chuckmum6
Tasty, although I forgot about them and they had a slight tan in parts, but still yummy!
Alis girls
i cant make shortbread - never seems to get to a dough even with careful weighing - i suspect its just me. I might try this recipe as most Omlet recipes I've tried turn out well.
chuckmum6
I had to add a splash of water to get a dough rather than crumble.
Lesley
I just use very soft butter.
Valkyrie
I have added semolina for extra crunch before, but that was years ago - haven't made them for such a long time and I can't remember the quantities I used. I have big problems with shortbread. I scoff it all too quickly. When I'm skinny I'll have another go.
