Bramble
I bought an unlocked HTC wildfire from phones 4u yesterday (not overly helpful in the shop). I put my orange SIM card from my existing phone in it (which has never been used for internet access as I didn't have the settings to access) and I can send and receive texts (vital!) and make and receive calls, but I can't get it to access the net. I phoned orange who gave me the manual settings (they couldn't text me the auto settings for that phone) but it still won't access the net. After two calls, Orange said to leave it 24 hours (really not sure why) and they will call me back to see if it's working yet. Just really wondered if any other Omleteers have had similar problems, or know what they problem might be, please? THanks for reading (apologies for long post), any help much appreciated from all you tekkies out there!!! Sam
Hmm I had the same problem with my O2 sim card but with my iPhone. I think it was because the sim card was a few years old, it didn't have the ability to connect to the internet using 3G. I just emailed them and asked them to send me a new sim but with my old number. The new sim card came, and on that the only difference was it said "O2 3G" so I think I was just due a new card! There is probably a way of keeping your old sim card - but it only took about 2 days for them to send me a new sim so it was fine for me! Good luck
Cinnamon
I seem to remember with one of my phones (& I generally get HTC) that I had to wait 24 hours for the internet access to be activated. Have you had a GOOD read of the instructions - often its just one setting that needs adjusting to gain access. Is wifi turned on,for instance? Bramble
Thank you both. Orange said they'd phone me back after 24 hours to see if it's working, if not, I'll ask them to send me a new sim (had mine for YEARS so pretty sure the prob is there rather than with the phone itself?) Amazingly, I have read the instructions, although there is only a Quick start guide, so they're not very detailed. Thanks for your help!!! Geoid
Thank you both. It is most likely the SIM card if it is an old one, old sim cards cannot access the 3G signal which is needed for internet browsing.

I bought a new Samsung Galaxy Apollo last year and I used the SIM card that came with it for the first month, which gave me full internet access. After that I put in the SIM from my old phone as it still had credit on it, but couldn't get a 3G signal on the phone and had to go back to the original SIM. Hope you get it sorted out soon
Bramble
Thank you all. I'm wondering if I can just put a new Orange SIM in it and then change my number to the new SIM, not sure how easy that would be to do?

I was going to change mine but in the end just couldn't be bothered as I don't really use my phone enough for it to matter I guess you would just have to contact Orange and ask them to sort it out for you, not sure how quick they would be. Snowy
Have you got an orange shop near to you? OH took his phones in and they changed it all over and updated it for him (he is a technophobe )
Sam
Have you got an orange shop near to you? OH took his phones in and they changed it all over and updated it for him (he is a technophobe ) Really? When we were in town and tried to do that at orange, they told us we must ring up because they can't do it in store They were busy that day... I suppose they won't make any money from my friend changing their number...
Snowy
Ah, we must have picked a quiet day and got a particularly helpful assistant!
Bramble
You mean these places have helpful assistants? Not sure where they all are when I go in, but phones 4 u yesterday weren't very helpful at all and I looked in my local Orange shop first and they just ignored me . That said, there's another Orange shop near work, I might well try there if I don't get any joy with the customer service call back. Thanks all! Bramble
Having waited nearly 48 hours after my last call, internet still wasn't working on my phone, so have just phoned Orange again and by jove, I think it's working!!!!!!!! I spoke to a very nice chap who apparently could tell that GPRS wasn't activated on my account, he's done that and despite saying I would need to wait another 24hours for it to start working, it's already accessing the net. Have to say, full marks to Orange customer service (I don't think they are UK based anymore, the time delay in speaking with them was a bit awkward at times) they were very helpful both times I 'phoned and called me back just when they said they would. Thanks for all your replies, everyone. Now, think I better hit android market, what to download first ...
Cinnamon
There was a post about that a couple of weeks ago - lots of good suggestions on what to download. Glad you are up & running at last
