2009 Omlet cube and run for sale

Much to our surprise, one of our new hens laid us an egg this morning. Wondering if a more experienced chook lover can identify the culprit? Hubby suspects one of the Orpingtons. It weighs 63g, list of girls is in my signature.

Woo congratulations From looking at your pictures, the buff orpington did look like it had the reddest face so I would go for her! I'm no expert though How exciting.. an egg on the first day

i have no idea who the egg is from but its fab that you got one on your first morning

We had another this morning but slightly paler colour, slightly larger and without speckles. Same hen?

I would say that you have two hens laying but I can't be certain.

 

It is fun guessing though!

That's it! Milestone reached! today, after having our chooks for exactly one week today I collected the sixth egg making our first half dozen!

We're pretty sure that all six are from just one hen as they all look very similar apart from the first which was a little speckled.

We know that six eggs from six hens in seven days is nothing to write home about, but it's a good start!

 

Here's to a full dozen by this time next week!

I was working in the garden today up by the eglu and noticed that only five of our six ladies were out and about, a quick peek into the nest box revealed Mrs Featherbottom squatting in there.

A few minutes later, there's an almighty bokking followed shortly by her bouncing down the ladder back outside.

Another peek in the nest box revealed a cream-coloured egg still hot from her bot which therefore confirmed that Mrs Featherbottom, our Buff Orpington is indeed the mystery egglayer.

And that makes our first full dozen too.

Hurrah!

Hi FeatheredFriend Well done in the detection front. I have two new girls and although they both lay I am not sure who lays which egg at the moment.

Hi I have done it. Added runs to eglu cube. I think you may have started something now.

In other news, we got two eggs today so someone else has started laying.

This new egg is paler and smaller than Mrs. Featherbottom's eggs. I wonder who it is!
