Orange San Francisco phone - Help plse!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got an Orange San Francisco smart phone? (or know anything about them?)

I got one on 28th Feb. It has become apparent this week that it has been connecting to the internet at random times, and downloading something. I'm on PAYG and only realised when it went over the free internet use allowance, which I would never usually use up. I had £20 credit on Saturday, and today the balance is £6.71. I've made one phone call in this time!

I have made 7 phonecalls to Orange, and am getting nowhere. I spoke at length to the technical department, who confirmed its not right and shouldn't be doing it. Every time I ring Orange I get a different answer and have to explain the whole story to them again. The technical department yesterday decided the best thing to do was talk me through a master factory reset, which I did. Its still connected twice in the night and my account has been debited again..

I do use the internet occasionally. I haven't downloaded many apps, and the technical team can't understand whats causing it, as they have also talked me through all the possible options for it being something to do with the GPS etc etc. As it is still doing it after resetting it, it seems unlikely that its something I have done to it!

I was promised various phone calls from Orange, and one from the technical team again today, none of which have materialised. I obviously need to phone them again now, but just can't face ringing and explaining the whole story again. I have asked to speak with managers, complaints departments etc with no avail. I have emailed a complaint, with no response.

WHAT CAN I DO????????? :wall:

Has anyone got any suggestions - other than throw it down the nearest deep hole? Its driving me to tears, but the credit is just being eaten away in front of my eyes.

Thanks everyone xx

Sorry for the long rant, but hopefully someone might know (a teenager probably! Although not even my teen can figure it out, so it must be bad!)

Yes I have it. You need to go the the android market and download APN on-off widget. It will change the connection name so it can't connect to the internet unless you turn it back on. Connect via wifi so you don't have to pay the internet download cost.

I'm glad someone got you the answer. Me personally I'd take it back and demand a refund along with all the credit it has used up. That's just me though I HATE Orange  I still have an outstanding bill with them for £200+ from 2001 which I refuse to pay. I took out the £50PM contract on the understanding that it covered cross networking calls. I was horrified when my first bill came in. Local store said that staff member no longer worked there and there was nothing they could do? Wrote to them and heard nothing back and heard nothing from them until a few weeks ago I got a letter from Debt Collection Company. Needless to say they got a very angry phone call from me stating that there was no chance I'd be paying it. I've not heard from them either. I still have all the paperwork and will quite happily take it to court.

Sorry for the rant Orange really get my back up.

Good for you. You shouldn't be made to pay for that when it's their fault :shameonu:

My iPhone does just the same... it was second hand so I put it down to that. It connects to the internet when Wi-Fi drops out, or when I'm out and about. I have unlimited internet so isn't an issue, but before I had unlimited it would drop wi-fi every 20 mins or so and connect to the mobile internet costing me money. Could be a common problem then. Sorry no real help :( Good luck getting it sorted though.

Result!!

Just got off the phone from Orange tech department again - 60+minute call!!! Have finally established that yes it will keep dialling into the internet. (Am just about to try the APN thing though)

However, very very nice man in Newcastle, who has credited my account with £20 and given me a free internet 'extra'.

Am still awaiting call from Orange supervisor. Just hope their billing department doesn't get involved and remove the credit again!

Will let you know if anything else happens, but thanks for your help (and don't pay that big bill either !)

Just about to fire off angry letter.............

Just keep on at them.

I have to admit that I have had £200+ phone bills in the past but have always paid them, but when I took this contract out I explained I needed it for cross networking calls for work and personal use and she suggested a dual line contract one number with daytime mins and another with evening mins resulting in £50pm contract. It's scary to think that back then to have 1000 free mins cost that much.

I've been with Virgin mobile now for 5 years with no problems and currently on a £20pm contract that gives me heaven knows how many mins, free calls to virgin mobiles and landlines, unlimited texts and 1GB internet. Plus I get Red rewards to put towards a new phone. :D

It seems that all Android phones are permanently connected to the internet unless you ask them otherwise. The tech man said that it is a common problem and the free internet bundles are not usually enough to cover average internet use and the constant connection. He recommended buying an extra 'bundle' making 250mb of internet monthly (but I don't use the internet much so could be easy to use more) Shame that no-one thought to explain that from the outset!

That said, its an excellent phone.,and came very highly recommended. Just approach it with caution! Make sure she downloads some of the things that have been recommended here and keep a very close eye on the account to check the internet use!

I've just downloaded an APN on/off widget. Is that the same thing? It shows as red or green arrows on the screen. I'm assuming that if its red its not connected?

Starting to wonder if its all just toooooooo complicated!

Thats the one! Red arrows means its not connected to mobile internet.
