fluffyfeet
Just met a lovely lady who came to ask if I had any eggs to sell (OH has put a little sign in the front garden, bless him) to which I answered yes, did she have a colour preference and popped into the house to get them. Light bulb moment - so I went back to the door and asked if she would like to meet the hens, who were happily having a free range at the time. She was enchanted with them to put it mildy - telling me how contented they looked, admiring my WIR and said if she was a hen she would like to live with me!! And she said she would definitely be back - Yay! I am so proud of my girls and their eggs I could burst. Dawn x
Guest
What a wonderful outcome to a notice in your garden. It's very rewarding being able to show folks your chickens isn't it. They always 'oohh' and 'ahh'.

Space Chick
That's lovely Dawn, I reckon you'll have a regular visitor/egg buyer there So did she choose unusual colours
migsy
Wonderful! You have given me an idea. I'm getting 30 eggs a week at the moment.

fluffyfeet
Funny you should say that Debs, as she asked for brown eggs. Thank goodness my Marans are my most consistent layers. And she's also going to bring me any empty egg boxes too. Definitely starting to consider getting a blue and a green egg layer, and was very taken with Omletina's Welsummer last weekend. Oh crikey - think I have symptoms of Morehens again!! Dawn x
Space Chick
Yep, I know the feeling I've been looking at hatching eggs from a good breeder I know

Chortle Chook
How magical to be able to ask 'What colour would you like?" That's just brilliant
JillM
That sounds lovely! Good luck with your future egg sales Talking of colours....what white egg layers would anyone recommend?
Space Chick
If you want good layers then White stars are great, a little flighty but lovely friendly personalities. they lay HUGE White eggs. For pure breeds, gold legbars are lovely as a largish breed or appenzellers for a small pretty breed
LeeMeadfan
I'll second the vote for White Stars! My Joni is my smallest girl but she's the top chook and a fantastic layer - as she loves to tell us When I pick her up she weighs nothing at all but lays large white eggs. She's also got a lovely floppy red comb
migsy
My Ancona lays white eggs - about 5 a week. Chick Wiggle - you have loads of hens!

JillM
Are there any breeders of Whitestars near Sheffield that you know of?
fluffyfeet
I know Omletina has a chook that lays huuuuuuge white eggs - don't know what she is though. Dawn x
Omletina Kyckling
I have two brown leghorns who lay lovely white eggs, and they are really nice characters too (don't tell the others but they are my favourites!) Well done Fluffyfeet on your egg buying lady!!
JillM
I'd really love to get a couple more chickens but.....they get through soo much feed already. Maybe once I have a permanent job instead of temping (and my teenagers have moved out) I'll be able to afford them.
MedusA
I usually take new egg customers to see the chickens too. I feel it gives them a mental image every time they crack an egg, and hopefully makes them want to come back for more.
Old Speckled Hen
That sounds lovely! Good luck with your future egg sales Talking of colours....what white egg layers would anyone recommend? My Vorwerk lays lovely white eggs and she is such a pretty hen.
Old Speckled Hen
Just met a lovely lady who came to ask if I had any eggs to sell Dawn x Dawn, how much do you sell your eggs for? It's just that there are only two of us and we get five eggs a day and I was going to twist DH's arm to sell some at work. Thanks
fluffyfeet
Go for it OSH - We're the same as you - 2 adults and DS, who will eat eggs but only as eggy bread. I do a half dozen for £1. I know they sell Free Range eggs by me for as little as 95p but my angle is that I can tell them who laid what and when, and they are welcome to a personal introduction to the girls if they like. And the 'posh' eggs in Waitrose are nearly £2 for half a dozen!! Best of luck! Dawn x
