Did my first WIR clear out today...

Recommended Posts

and will be going to bed in a minute!!

just for the record, for those who are new-ish to WIRs like me... ours went up last October, we have a marine ply floor, which I used 2 bags of aubiose to cover (12 ft sq). 10 girls and 2 rabbits (at that time) and 10 quail in a rabbit hutch duplex, plus a 50sq m outdoor area with electric fence.

have never poo-picked; did chuck stalosan around which turned everything a nasty colour.. had to put tarpaflex up in an emergency - horizontal rain, very high winds. plus we are 30m from the sea, so pretty exposed site.

so today was the day - beautiful sunshine, low winds, almost spring. I have to say it was MUCH easier than expected - basically I swept everything to the door, shovelled old aubiose into a handy plastic box, tipped into the wheelbarrow, and removed to nearby new bed which has just been rotavated ready for planting come May.

took me 2 hours to clean the whole thing out; wallpaper s"Ooops, word censored!"er was v. useful for crusty bits on the floor and I chucked bucket loads of stalosan down wherever things looked damp/minging; got the girls to spread the new easibed or whatever around (not got quite enough, but it will do till I can get some more delivered). Then, of course, I had to do the cube as well - feel as if I have achieved today!!

Cheap chickens if your aubiose lasted all that time

well it seemed to be ok. MammaT and her husband came and had a look a week or so ago (when they picked up an eglu) and said it didnt smell!!

I think I put too much down last time around tho, it was very deep and so maybe absorbed an awful lot. I have to say it looks much nicer now, and I did poopick this morning - not sure I will poopick every day though. maybe mine poo outside more??
