goodinparts
As I've sadly recorded on the RIP thread, I lost my lovely faverolles this morning...She became ill very quickly after arriving here, though both the pekins that travelled with her from Mini Meadows farm are thriving & apparently her pen mates at the farm are fine too, stopped eating and drinking on Sunday and just went straight down hill from there. I tried everything I could think of, including meds sent 1st class from the breeder...spoke to my vet, who pretty much said "Bring her in to be PTS if you want but I don't really know about chickens" ...and was all set to do so but she died quietly in the upstairs bathroom before I could get her there. All this is horrid, of course - I really didn't expect to feel so bleak about a chicken, specially one who'd only been with me 5 days....but the light in the dark was provided by lovely Ben from MiniMeadows, who was not only totally sympathetic (not a bit "Oh, these things happen" as professionals often are) offered to refund or to drive down with another faverolles in the next week (I've said no thanks, - it feels too soon) and has agreed to pick me out a pair of girls from the next hatch and save them til I'm ready to integrate again....He was so kind and really made me feel not at all stupid about mourning a hen. The few short days with Faith the first were enough to convince me that I really DO want this breed - so come my Heniversary in June I'll try again, not forgetting Faith the first but grateful for her gentle presence in my life for those few days. goodinparts
Thanks, hun...She's the first girl I've lost so I'm extra sorry- but at least I know now, instead of just imagining, that faverolles really ARE the breed for me. Think I'm going to run 2 lines of extremes - faverolles & those teeny bantams d'Anvers - I do love those two that came from Reading.

craftyhunnypie
I'm really sorry. It is perfectly normal to mourn any pet. I break my heart every time a chook dies. I too have shed some tears this morning. Hugs Emma.x
