Cate in NZ
Have you heard the news today about the Cutty Sark? Burned down in the early hours of this morning, arson suspected Fortunately it's been undergoing extensive restoration work recently and a large part of it had been removed for renovation, so they believe that they should be able to restore it, but what a pointless bit of vandalism (if that's what it was) to a great piece of British history. I work in the Greenwich area and have visited the Cutty Sark in the past, and am quite bizarrely upset by this news. Some of the story is on the Timesonline : http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article1817806.ece
Egluntyne
Just seen it on the news. I hope it is not due to vandalism.
AnnieP
I'm gutted about this. I spent 4 years at college in New Cross and Greenwich was always my favourite haunt at weekends. OH and I had some very special times there.
Popcorn
It's awful isn't it. A huge part of history gone in minutes. Very sad.
riane
I have many happy memories with Matthew who is now 18 running up and down the Cutty sark when he was 18 months to 2 years.."all aboard" he would shout down to us ...it was a brilliant way of using up all his energy on a Sunday morning. Hope they restore it
Rhapsody
I'm a Londoner born and bred, I cant explain how the news affected me. I took many out-of-town guests from all around the world on the boat trip from Embankment to Greenwich, its my fave thing to do in London. Very sad day
