White Khaki Cambells stopped laying and won't restart

We are in desperate need of a new garden shed, ours is likely to fall apart at any moment

 

Wooden ones are a bit expensive for us, so I've been looking at the metal ones, specifically this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7053445.htm Having read through the reviews I don't know whether to get it or not, half the people say it's great and not too bad to put together, the half say it's terrible, really flimsy and a nightmare to put together. They have the same one on Homebase and the reviews are much the same.

 

So have any of you got a metal shed or had any experience of them?

Complete coincidence - ours is being delivered next Monday.

 

We've ordered the 10 x 8 (OH is blaming all my chook stuff - the nerve!!) and was on special at £250 instead of £350.

 

I know other people that have them and say that they are a bit of a pain to put up but as long as they are secured properly are fine. Ours will be going onto a slabbed 'pad' next to the WIR.

The shed we have at the mo is 6'x6', so this one is slightly bigger, we think it's a concrete base underneath it.

I have a metal shed. It was here when we arrived so I don't know where it came from or how easy/hard it is to put up. Ours is on concrete (I think) which is excellent - no weeds growing up or anything. I really like it as there is no maintainence, its a decent size, completely sturdy, no gnawing nasties, and a large doorway. Ours has a clear panel in the roof as well so its light. I don't know if there are different grades of metal, but it might be a case of you get what you pay for, like in wooden sheds. If I was buying another one, I'd go metal but I'd probably want to see it before I bought it.

Definitely need two people to put it up, and not when it's windy!

 

Homebase and Argos are essentially the same company, when I ordered something from one or the other , invoice had Argos & Homebase along top! Argos always seems out of stock whenever I need something so I check HB too!

 

We got a small one and managed to put it up between us - was on a concrete 'pad' & in a sheltered position, so don't know how well they'd fare if in an open exposed position?

 

Downside was can't screw nails in to hang stuff off like you can with wood. Plus side - low maintenance!

 

Ours had sliding doors. It was fine, but spiders loved it (prob. cos near trees!)

We have that VERY shed! Also bought from Argos

 

Pros - no maintenance, looks neat all the time - ours is nearly 2 years old and still looks good! Good price. Easy to wash splashed chicken poop off it

Small cons - just so you buy with your eyes wide open! None of these would put us off buying another...

Definitely a 2 person job to put up (but follow the instructions very carefully and it'll be fine).

Noisy to open the sliding doors (and fiddly, OH has the knack, I don't ).

No floor (unlike our old wooden shed) so we had running condensation on the underside of the roof so (1) we don't store anything that could be ruined (eg furniture/cushions), (2) when we moved, we put a damp proof membrane under the slabs (really helped) and (3) we put guttering up to minimise rain water running off the roof, onto the slabs and into the shed... doesn't bother me now

No hanging space - solved with wooden battons screwed to the inside from the outside (also how we put the guttering up).

If a shovel falls over, it dents the wall

And if you move house, it's easily dented by a frustrated OH trying to "carefully" dismantle it Funnily enough, it came down a lot quicker than it went up!

 

If we were to replace it, we'd consider a plastic one with built in floor (but not if it means paying £300 for half the size!!!).

We can't hear rain on it when we're in the house and YES, it's strong and as tough as old boots now it's put together and it's held down by it's own weight (although it's wedged into a tight corner so unlikely to take off in high winds )

Do yourself a favour and have the interior spray-foamed. A lot less noise, and a whole lot warmer/cooler.

We have a plastic shed, look similar to that but came from Costco

 

I put it all up on my own a good few years and its still fine

No maintenance and I've jet washed it when doing the eglus

We've been looking into plastic sheds for the allotment.

 

My friends Mum had a metal one, and found it unbearable in the summer

a metal shed down the road from us was totally destroyed by the weight of snow we got this winter. but then there was a LOT of snow....... and a wooden one could well have had the same fate ....
