Furious at local pool

Recommended Posts

I have just read my local paper and found out our local, council run pool has just put up it's prices. Just in time for the Easter holidays  And not by a little bit  Last Saturday my YD went swimming and it cost her £2.75. If she were to do the same this weekend it would be £4.15. It has gone up by 57%! The adults price has shot up from £4 to £5.70 - 43%! About an hours drive away, there is a really good fun pool which, for the whole family (2 adults and 3 kids) would cost us £16.80 and not the £24.15. And that price is for less facilities in the pool. Our local pool has an inflatable for one session on a Saturday and a Sunday and a flume, which isn't always open due to lack of staff. The pool an hour away is called Romsey Rapids - look it up and you'll see what they have. We've not actually been, but I think if this is the price, we'll start going there.

One way we can get in for cheaper is to get an £11 leisure card which offers discounts. But we'd need to get one each!!!

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this down to the government cuts?

I don't swim myself, but my kids do like it, especially YD, and I think this is disgraceful.

I hate it how holidays go up too. I mean for most famillies who earn average wages a £2000-3000 for a holiday abroad (this isnt 4* just your average beach job) cant afford these prices. With the weather unpredictabel in the UK sometimes a jaunt to Spain or Greece turns out to be a dream rather than reality. You should get local paper involved and get a petition up. Theres a recession on and ordinary people cant afford these prices

That's a shame.

We're lucky enough to have two pools locally which are included in our gym membership - the indoor one at the sports centre and the outdoor (50m) pool just 600 yards away. The outdoor one opens at the end of May - too late in my opinion - they'd do a roaring trade this weekend if the forecast is to be believed.

I have commented on the story itself in the paper's online bit. They have set up a poll to see if people think it is too much. At a cost of 50 + per text!! I don't think so :notalk: I letter to the council is called for I think.
