I thought with all the people on here someone may be able to help!

 

Basically I have to get a 6 week Work Experience Placement over the summer for a Year 2 Uni module. Wanted mine to be related to chickens so have got an ideal placement with chickens and horses but its about 1 hour 20 from home.

The train station the other end is 7 miles so thats too far. Looked at hotels but thats looking more expensive and I'd still need to get to work everyday. Considering a caravan but will still need a car to get home at the end of the week.

 

Mom has a car which I'm insured on, but she needs it for work so we're thinking about her hiring a car to use for work (obviously me paying) and me using "our" car to get to my WEP.

Don't even know if it'd be cheaper to buy an old car and insure it for 6 weeks then sell it!?

 

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations of who to use please? (esp on a Student budget )

Its coming out at around £1000 for just the Mini and Economy cars . Had a £5000 quote for a 6 passenger car!

Still undecided wether to buy a cheap old car to insure or hire instead.

Found a car I wanted + was only 10 mins from us but think I was being a bit too cheap Mom thinks hire just incase something goes wrong with it so we're still looking at hire places aswell!

One place, the quote was the same price for 49 and 56 days hire so think we'll go in and see about deals for such a long time

Is there a youth hostel near to where you're hoping to do a placement? As if you join the YHA it wouldn't be too expensive to stay for the 6 weeks.

or a friendly Omleteer (or two or three) who could put you up near your work placement????!!!!

I did look at youth hostels Liz but only found a hotel linked to hostels at £24 a night - would still have the prob of getting there as its 7 miles out of town though.

 

Think anyone would be sick of me after 6 weeks

Hopefully be stopping down a night or two a week so I can have a lie in and save petrol though

Ah, ok, fair enough. I think the let's get to know a few people and ask to stay with them approach could be useful! Or, you could camp nearby at a campsite for 6 weeks??? Or, on the other hand maybe not!
