Chicken boarders

Hi I’ve had my 2 wellsummers since mid Jan this year and still no eggs, I feed them only layers pellets, there combs are red and seem really happy, they make there little noises and come down stairs when they see me and I let them out for an hour each night in the garden. Every morning I look in the box to find nothing, any ideas. I’ve even drawn a picture of a chicken and an egg and stuck it out side the run, it made me laugh when I did it as both of them were looking at the drawing moving there head side to side like they where reading it.

How old are they and do they crouch when you go near them? I put a golf ball in the nestbox and got the first egg a few days later

The farmer said they were all last years and had been wormed, they dont crouch when i go near them, they tend to just carry on walking. they only sit down on the lawn in there little dust bathing area they made

Maybe the farmer was wrong and they are older than he said? Have you checked everywhere possible to see if they are laying their eggs elsewhere? Hope you get some eggs soon!!

I got mine in September and she was about 10 weeks, she didn't lay till mid Feb. They're lovely eggs it will be worth the wait.

My Welsummer came back into lay just a couple of weeks ago - the last of mine to come back into lay after their winter break. Mine is the most timid of my chooks and has never crouched, so I wouldn't worry about that.I'd give them a couple more weeks , hopefully you'll have eggs by then.

What colour are their legs? They're one of the breeds whose legs yellow up as they come into lay, then it fades during the laying season.

Yipee yesterday we finally got a perfect egg and today another. So only one is laying and both times just on the perch rather than the nest box. Going to have them tonight, sausage, eggs and chips

Are wellsummer eggs really dark brown?

they are a mild brown, just look the same as the supermarket ones

My Wels both lay really dark brown eggs although one lays them marginally lighter.
