Theyre doing well-i think..even took themselves to bed..and we now have a total of 6 eggs since we got them! They seem to have got over their probls with the cats and the cats are now ignoring them-except tonight i went and sat inside the run and Cleo sat outside crying and pulling on the door trying to get in! Lavenders_Blue Posted April 18, 2011 Share Posted April 18, 2011 Mine are drinking plenty of water plus Lifeguard tonic, and they will peck at a bit of scattered corn, an apple or halved grapes, but they are not eating their ex batt pellets. I made some into porridge this morning and they've hardly touched it. I've ordered a bag of the ex batt crumbs, which should arrive tommorow.Should I be worried? (My last ex batts didn't take this long to start eating, and they went onto the pellets straight away). Two have laid today. They won't recognise the pellets as food. They will only ever have been fed mash which looks very different to pellets. The ex batt crumb looks similar enough to mash for them to recognise it as food. Hopefully when you collect your crumb tomorrow they will start digging in! You can also offer pellets alongside so that they start getting the hang of what they are supposed to do with them. j00lz_12366 Posted April 18, 2011 Author Share Posted April 18, 2011 lol..the first afternoon they were not at all happy and wouldnt come out near the run and sulked, so we got some extra treats for them (h.a.m). Also when they did come out the chickens went mad. But yesterday the cats slowly came round and spent time near the run being nosey but not so that they scared the girls and they weren't really bothered either..and today it was even less noticable, that is until I went in the run and shut the door behind me! she cried and cried, but she'll have to get used to it-she's a baby and is used to going everywhere with me! Barkisland Posted April 19, 2011 Share Posted April 19, 2011 Just peeped in on my 'spy in the coop' webcam, and caught sight of one of them noshing at last! Hope the other two catch on quick. Purplemaniacs Posted April 20, 2011 Share Posted April 20, 2011 I was advised to get a metal trough feeder for mine as they don't like to put their heads in things to feed. Barkisland Posted April 20, 2011 Share Posted April 20, 2011 I have hanging feeders, which don't require them to put their head inside, but I have still only seen one of them eating - the biggest of the three. I'm assuming the others must be eating something, although the only things I've seen them peck at are a bit of corn, apples, grapes, grit and, erm, Aubiose Daft birds.
