snowberry
I've read up a lot on hatching but have only just seen the thread on here about it. It says that bantams hatch 3 days earlier...eek! It's day 20 for us & one's only now starting to emerge. Which is correct for future hatchings, stop turning them on day 15 or 18? Thanks, sb
craftyhunnypie
Always day 18, even for bantam eggs. Yes they can hatch anything from day 19 to day 25!!! I've had one rolling about in my hand on day 18, when I have put the anti slip mat in. It's then pipped that night & hatched in the morning. Good luck. Redwing
Me too, day 18, sometimes I forget to stop turning at all, they still hatch just fine - I had six chicks that hatched this morning with turning still on and eggs held upright by rods - I need to start using a calender I'm of the opinion that stopping turning too early will cause more problems than too late
craftyhunnypie
I agree - as it will one tell the chick it's time to hatch too early & two may stick to the shell on one spot internally. The chick could be slightly under developed & will probably not have absorbed all the yolk. Emma.x
snowberry
Well, 12 hours later from the first pip. 3 more have pipped, but the first is nowhere near out. I can hear it chirping occasionally though...
snowberry
I feel ilke a dad in the labour ward, but I'm a woman! I would love to skip work tomorrow but I have a suspected murderer in the cells!

brambles
I have bantam eggs under a broody and we're on day 19 today. I have heard no cheeping but one of the eggs has a little crack on it which is exciting. Going out for some live mealworms for my girl as she's sat so well. snowberry
I'm sorry to say that during the night my kitten got into the incy & took one of the pekins; I am gutted and angry at myself for not segregating them...
