Henergy
So if you've read my other post, the news is that we are getting a bigger WIR than planned and a builder in to lay the base. So that opens up my options. I was originally going to pop down some sleeper egdes and leave bare earth plus aubiose or woodchip. Now with a builder being on site I could opt for a solid floor ? What do you all think ?
beach chick
hmmm, everyone will have different points of view! flagstone edges and earth middle = they can be safe and scratch around; lots of people like this option because the bedding etc can just rot down, and you chuck round a bit of stalosan/garden lime/whatever to keep it clean solid flags = easier to sweep out and get completely clean earth middle is probably cheaper though. Sam
I just had a mud floor basically with wood chip on top. I would prefer to have a solid base so that it is all level, and you can completely clean it. At the minute the girls dig holes and kick the mud about and make it all messy, and you lose a lot of wood chip under ground with their digging. As you're getting builders in, it wouldn't do any harm for them to lay some slabs too...

Plum
Guess it depends what your ground is like. My run is at the bottom of a hill on clay so the concrete base keeps everything dry and healthy otherwise it would be a mudpit.
Egluntyne
I'd go for the solid floor. No risk of predators tunnelling in - and very easy to clean.
