big poo...

Recommended Posts

One or two of my hens (A hybrid and a barred plymouth rock) have been making...how do i put this without being that graphic...large poo's when they are let out of their house in the morning. It is the normal colour and texture of "normal poo" but is about the size of a large BBQ sausage. It doesn't seem to hurt them when they pass it. Then they don't seem to make anymore "abnormalities" for the rest of the day

Any ideas as to what's causing it, or is it normal?

Thanks

It's nothing to worry about - if they're doing those on a morning, they're generally healthy.

We refer to them as Monster Poos...

They do stink though - they've been sat there fermenting when the hen's been asleep (and possibly when laying an early morning egg). We usually find that the hens are so offended by them that they prefer not to pop them out in their run - with ours, we open the cube door, then let them into the garden where they do their monster poos, after that they're happy to go back into the WIR...
