new chickens coming soon... updated with new pics

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd post an update, as I was in the garden earlier, taking pictures of the new girls free ranging... they're doing really well, are loving their new life, and seem very relaxed about everything, including Charlie our crazy irish setter pouncing around all the time near their eglu. It's lovely to watch them free range, they have this friendly air about them, and this lovely curiosity, rushing up to everyone and everything to investigate. Their appearance is still very much ex-batt, but their attitude has changed, it did so quite quickly after we brought them home actually, they went from subdued looking to posh girls, holding themselves proudly, and looking like right little madams...

Here they are :

This is Kally, who unlike the others loves to have her picture taken and doesn't turn away from me with a 'oh you annoying paparazzi' expression :

This is Jess, with Charlie the crazy dog in the background, thinking 'hey, why is it that when they free range I have to go to jail'... Charlie was very helpful rushing to them and distracting them from their squabbles while they established their pecking order...

and finally I love this one... three posh ladies on a stroll... look like they're heading to a tea room for tea and scones...

I apologise for the state of the garden... with four kids and 27 pets, humans and fauna come first, and flora is left to be neglected (apologies to the tomato plants in the conservatory for making them bottom of the pecking order)... I've been at the vet so often recently I'm nearly on first name term with them all, what with dog hurting his tail and getting stung by something and swelling up, Bluebelle the chook having some troubles and being on antibiotics and isolated from the others in the WIR, cat needing check up for his heart issues, bunnies now needing myxo boosters, and so on and on and on...

On top of it all, lovely Nigel the gardener has taken time off as his wife has recently given birth to their baby... how inconsiderate, really :P:wink:

So the backyard looks more like a junkyard... and is full of kids, cats, dog, chooks and so on... full of everything except good grass, as the dry weather has changed a lot of it into a barren desert...

Love to all,
