chookmumtobe
Hi everyone, Just looked out the window to see Margot my light sussex bantam lay an egg on the grass, went and retrieved it, only to look out 5 minutes later to see her lay a softee, which she turned around and started pecking at until my daughter distracted her and I scooped it up, can anyone shed any light on why this has happened please? I didn't think this was possible! Thank you in advance! snowy bonnie margot
Lavenders_Blue
It does happen from time to time, especially in the summer as the days are lengthening and their egg laying increases. One of my girls has occasionally laid a normal egg in the morning, a softie in the evening and then another normal egg the next morning. Never quite as close together as your girl laid her two eggs though! I am sure it will just be a one off and nothing to worry about.
chookmumtobe
That is reassuring Lavenders-blue, my two other bantams have gone from being broody to moulting so haven't been getting many eggs! There was a softee that had fallen through the roosting bars in the eglu yesterday and put it down to an attempt at an egg by one of the broodies, but possibly by margot? There's not a lot I can do about it if it is margot but I'll monitor the situation. Thanks again,
