Best liner/ bedding for drop tray

We have two ginger nut rangers which are approx 3 years old and both have stopped laying at roughly the same time. Both chickens seem happy and healthy. Does this mean that's no more eggs as they are too old? Is there anything I can give them to help them lay at least the odd egg as I'mmissing the lovely eggs them used to lay!

Yep, that's about the right age for hybrids to stop laying I'm afraid, some stop sooner.

 

They are now just pets rather than egg laying pets

I have two 2 year old hybrids who haven't laid for months .

I have 5 ex batts approx 2 1/2 years. I'm lucky to get 3 eggs a week all from the same girl.

My original Omlet girl Shirley will be 5 years old in October this year and has only just stopped laying - I've got the occasional egg over the last couple of months but she was laying reliably every day up until around February of this year. She's still looking in great condition and we've certainly got our moneys worth from her. I think she must be a record breaking hen!

still, I wouldn't have swapped them for anything!

They stop laying about 3, and they live on average till they're about 7 years old too!

Darla, one of my original chooks, is still laying well, she is 5 and going into her 6th season of laying. She has laid most days thoughout her life, except when in moult, and is still going strong, laying every other or maybe 2 days apart. What a gal.

 

I'd definitely get the speckaldy breed again.

One of my Omlet girls didn't make two and the other was only just over two and they both stopped laying a while before they died.

 

I have two Hybirds who are both three and half and they still lay, Ivory about two a week and Latte one or two, they did stop over the winter.

My last remaining Omlet girl - Flo is about 3 1/2 now and she's just started laying the occasional softie egg (which they end up scoffing) and I get about 1 normal egg a week from her now. I'm not fussed as the other two girls are laying pretty much every day.
