Houseboat holiday - What is it like?

Recommended Posts

Do you mean as In canal boats? If so, they are wonderful, I have had loads and my fav type of holiday. Unlike renting cottages and the like you don't have to plan what you do each day as you just potter along the river, lovely countryside, very relaxed, just moor up at a pub each night for dinner. Its worth when planning your trip to check out how many locks and lift bridges there are on your route, I find operating them great fun, but some have loads and unless your going as part of a largish group it can be lots of hard work.

It's a static houseboat - and from pictures I have seen looks a bit like a floating wooden caravan. We saw lots when we were in Holland last weekend, and fell in love with one of the little towns we visited, so I've been looking into self catering accommodation and this houseboat was one of the first things suggested.
