fluffyfeet
We are very interested in a houseboat holiday this year and wondered if anyone else has any experience of them - especially abroad - as the houseboat we like is in Holland! Thanks. Dawn x
CatsCube
Do you mean as In canal boats? If so, they are wonderful, I have had loads and my fav type of holiday. Unlike renting cottages and the like you don't have to plan what you do each day as you just potter along the river, lovely countryside, very relaxed, just moor up at a pub each night for dinner. Its worth when planning your trip to check out how many locks and lift bridges there are on your route, I find operating them great fun, but some have loads and unless your going as part of a largish group it can be lots of hard work. fluffyfeet
It's a static houseboat - and from pictures I have seen looks a bit like a floating wooden caravan. We saw lots when we were in Holland last weekend, and fell in love with one of the little towns we visited, so I've been looking into self catering accommodation and this houseboat was one of the first things suggested. percy049
I love Holland! (even though i've never been out the airport). What about the norfolk broads
The Dogmother
I really enjoyed my visit a couple of years back; it reminded me of Bruges. Norfolk is similar but doesn't have so many towns on the broads/rivers.
percy049
! oulton broad, yarmouth, reedham, norwich (although it techincally isnt part of the broads), not forgeting all the little villages! Glad you enjoyed your visit though
The Dogmother
I know what you mean - I grew up on the Broads, but it's not like Holland in respect of the types/sizes of towns; Holland has far more to offer. That houseboat looks lovely, I have seen similar houseboats in the UK and they look fine.
sadietoo
That looks lovely...but do take the mozzie repellent.....some cousins of mine did a "bulb tour" by barge, and had the most fabulous time (even the confirmed landlubber who was dreading it!)
