Willow
There's a threat to the school my sons go to. It wouldn't close but if the change goes through it would make a fundamental change to the character of the school and they love it as it is. So I wrote to my local MP and had a lovely and reassuring reply back very quickly. I don't know if she wrote it or someone in her office but it's in her style of talking so they are very good if it's from her office

sadietoo
I have to say that I wrote to my MP a few years back regarding an aged relative's treatment in a care home and got a really quick reply and he made himself very accessible to me until the situation was sorted. I live in an area where you could pin a blue rosette on a Donkey and it would still be elected, (which actually is at odds with my own politics) however I have to say that he could not have been better or more supportive. I would always encourage people to involve their MP in any area where they are just not getting a satisfactory reply from a public service...and I'm really glad to hear that you had such a positive experience too Patricia. gongladosh
I've had similar experiences with my local MP on a couple of issues. If anyone wants to write to their local MP or councillor, try: http://www.theyworkforyou.com/.
Charlottechicken
I do feel that a few lazy so and so's have earned a bad reputation in the past and it has rubbed off, rather unfairly on others, not helped by expenses scandals etc. Any MP's I've come into contact with (working in a large Government department we receive a fair few MP letters) have been fiercely protective of, and hard working for, their law abiding constituents. ubereglu
I do feel that a few lazy so and so's have earned a bad reputation in the past and it has rubbed off, rather unfairly on others, not helped by expenses scandals etc. It's the ones who go into politics for the wrong reasons that annoy me most...By my location you might think I'd agree with this, but having met the guy on several occasions he works incredibly hard.
