NaughtyChickens
Well we went to buy two new girls yesterday and instead of getting the Faverolles as we had originally planned we ended up with two Barnevelders (unfortunately they didn't have any Faverolles left and well I couldn't come away empty handed and Barnevelders were next on my wish list - you know how it is). Anyway they are about 26 weeks old and have been sectioned off in part of the walk in run, of course all hell has broken out with our old girls. They still look a little bewildered but seem to be settling in okay. They are already very tame and have sat quite happily on our laps. They also have already had a brief free range on their own in the garden, I know you are meant to keep them in the run for a couple of days but they seemed so tame that we thought we'd give it a go. Anyway it went all fine, and we had no problems getting them back in the run. I will try and figure out how to post a couple of pics on here. NaughtyChickens
Right hopefully this works okay. Names still to be decided so for now its Barnie 1 and Barnie 2 Barnie 1 Barnie 2(they are going through a bit of a moult so she's not looking quite her best) Barnie 1 (sporting a cut on her beak where she has had disagreements with old girls through the run panels) Barnie 1 making a bee line for my plants Barnie 2 Barnie 2 Sorry for the number of pics, got abit carried away One quick question I've noticed that they are not scratting yet - Is this a breed thing or do you think they just need to settle in properly - I've not come across chickens that don't scrat yet! NaughtyChickens
Thanks They are from Mini Meadows. We were quite lucky as they didn't have many birds left, although they also had a gorgeous pair of bantam orps and we were torn between the two. Its probably a good job they didn't have more choice or we'd probably still be there now If anyone is interested we created a little movie clip of their first exploration: http://www.naughtychickens.co.uk/2011/06/barnies-exploring-movie-clip.html
