Poor wet hens :(

Recommended Posts

The weather in the South West has been truly awful today :( - rain all day & wind too. They were in the covered run part of coop most of the day to try & stay dry but the wind must have blown alot of rain in as they got quite wet - poor things. Anyway, by about 7 it stopped (mostly) so I let the girls out of the coop for a run around. But they are still damp - I feel so sorry for them & am desparate to get my DH to make a final decision on a new set up which will hopefully include a roof lol !

I assume its ok for them to get wet - I guess they do on the farm. They just look sad :(

Forecast is better tomorrow.

Mine looked soaked and thoroughly miserable today. There are a dozen or more places that they could have chosen to shelter including the covered cube run but appear to have spent most of the day out in the rain  We put them to bed early so that they could dry off a bit before they roosted but they were pacing like caged lions wanting to get out again :roll:

It's been horrible in the mids too. If they have plenty of feathers and it's not really cold then I'd say they are fine in the rain. Mine have the option of shelter but still choose to venture out every few minutes and end up getting soaked.

Henergy- I like the look of those shelters but think they're rather expensive for what they are. You could just buy 3 sheets of Polycarbonate for less than £35 and stick them together. Might not look as posh but will still do the job and would be easier to move around too as it'd be a lot lighter. Just a thought.

I'm actually thing of getting a small one of these for their free range area - just for days like this. Any one got anything similar ?

It has been tipping down here in Manchester too (nothing new there!). I've got one of these which is good because they like to sit on top and on the perches. They still end up soaking wet though. They don't seem to care!
