Hi all,

okay i am very worried about fox attacks, lots more happening recently ive heard. So my set up has slabs in, a fox would struggle getting under the anti skirt and up with the slabs there, also the grass and mud etc has totally embedded the skirt in the ground so you cant see it really. it is secured with cable ties and clips. Girls arent locked in the cube but i will be doing that. partner scents the garden. however we dont have anything else, we have a back and front fence a fox could get into. ive never seen a fox but oh has seen one the other end of the street at 5am. We also have a cat who wee's and poo's in our garden. We dont have a back light atm, waiting for it to be fitted, would this scare a fox? i would have it pretty much have it above the eglu, i would get some more too i think. Anything else i can do? i am currently unemployed so havent got alot of money to spend, i know foxwatches are £40 but anything else that could work? thanks xx

I agree, I think your set up sounds secure. I don't think I've ever read on the forum of a fox getting into the eglu run unless the clips arent secure, on soft soil etc, so I think with the added security of the slabs it should be fine.

It's a risk leaving your cube door open, but you just need to assess your own situation and see how fox proof your run is. I also take the risk, but have slabs all along my wir so I'm fairly confident :)

someone not long before I joined posted a thread called 'all murdered, gutted' and said a fox had managed to dig under and push up through the wire and slabs of their WIR- though they never answered the question of whether the slabs were cemented together or not and I was a bit dubious that a fox really *could* breech that setup if they were as secure as they said... but, if it is true, then no one is safe? http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=78145

hmmm, i remember reading that thread too, im just worried, i really couldnt stand anything getting my girls, i am a bit anxious about closing the run door as we have 3 new hens and i dont want them to really start picking on them as they are bored in the cube??

they'll be fine if they're roosting and you let them out promptly, I'm sure! Perhaps invest in some Anti-Pek spray as a precaution?
