I would cook it, myself. I have heard that if you give it dry, it will expand inside them and cause problems and that the habit of throwing rice at newly weds was shunned because it caused problems for the wild birds that subsequently ate it. Whether this is true or not seems to be a matter of debate though. I guess they would eat it in the wild, but probably in small quantities.

I have heard of this, I dont mind cooking it tho

On principle, I don't give my hens anything that would swell up in water, because of the problem Egluntyne mentions above. I wouldn't give dry porridge oats, or even raisins unless it was a very few. They love it cooked, though.
