OMG! I've got Morehens Disease *with pics*

Recommended Posts

I've got a case of Morehens Disease... and it's serious!:D

We lost our lovely Rosie last week and there is such a big gap in our garden and my heart :( I love Betty and Mabel of course, but it just isn't the same with two girls...

We were thinking of increasing our flock anyway - in the next month or so but...

I'm getting three new girls tomorrow :D:dance::dance::dance: yay! As you can tell I'm very excited!

We are getting a Warren, a Sussex Star and a Speckledy. I will post piccies tomorrow after they have arrived!

My Mum has annoyed me a bit though. When I mentioned to her that I was thinking of getting some more she pulled a face :x saying "we shouldn't have any more as it's too much work" and I have enough to cope with so I should let them die off! Then when I told her you can't leave a hen on it's own and how cruel that would be she said " I had to get my priorities right" as they "are ONLY chickens!!!":? Well it was like a red rag to a bull!!! I set her straight, believe me!

She's just looked after them for a week whilst we were on holiday and said herself how fond of them she had become, so just don't understand her comments!

So I shall keep our new additions :shh: for now and not tell her anything lol! :) She'll come round soon enough... I'm 37 not 12, for goodness sake! I think I can make my own decisions...

I'm now off to start preparing for their arrival *goes out to clean cube* ttfn x

You're not asking her to look after them all the time. sorry from your post I originally did think you might be a teenager from her comments, if you're 37 I think you know what you can cope with or more importantly enjoy. Yeay to the new additions...

Enjoy the hens. My numbers went up from 6 to 12 recently, I live with my Mum, she didn't need much persuading, it was her who made the decision to buy the new girls as she fell in love with them immediately. She's even come around to the idea of hatching our own hens next year. Hurrah... Morehens is highly contagious. No cure for it!! :D:lol:

I have just lost my entire post grrr! *sighs* I shall do it again...

They're here! They're lovely 8)

Rosie2: the boss! She's 19 wks old and is a lovely big Warren. My little 3yr old chick insisted we called her Rosie - so Rosie it is!

Dotty: the Sussex Star. she's also 19 wks old and has a lovely sweet face.

Olive: the Speckledy - but she is very Daisy Belle ish - can they have more white around their head/neck area? She's the baby at 16 wks old, and is bullied because of it. Nothing nasty, but a few neck pecks here and there. She also is a sweet girl.

They have settled very well. Dotty took herself off to bed last night, but the others needed a bit of persuasion :) They were fine when I let them out this morning - Rosie is a bit of a madam regarding food, but I put an extra bowl of pellets in to stop any naughtiness :shameonu:

As for the oldies... Well Betty has been very calm about it and has been over for a nosey a few times :) and no nastiness - just interested!

As for Mabel - well she's gone into a right huff  She refuses to go anywhere near them or even look at them! She's made her feelings known very vocally :? and chunnered and crowed all around the garden yesterday! I could honestly tell what she was saying  and she gave me a right dirty look  I do hope she gets over it!

here are a few photos - took on my mobile, so not brilliant, but I will try and ost better ones later

Lovely ladies, we are thinking about getting some more next week, we both have the week off, so may take a trip to Wernlas :D

We have 7, 2 old ladies who are about 4.5 and 5 2.5 year old hybrids, who really aren't laying very well anymore. We have combined the 2 groups over the past fortnight and they seem to have settled in together so we no have an empty Eglu. Well we would have if Sky hadn't spent the night in there having some softie trouble. it was nice to be able to give her a bit of peace but it would be a shame to keep the Eglu just for isolation we have a little rabbit house and a couple of pet carriers for that :D

They are lovely!

My mum is similar. When ever I talk about the chickens (esp when I get more) she tutts and rolls her eyes. I'm 30 so certainly don't need her approval but I does upset me a bit if I'm honest. I still ignore her though

btw tigerlily yours is my fav avatar out of all I've seen! It looks very cools like 3 dudes strutting down the street! 8)

Awww thank you Fluffy Chick :D That's Rosie (who sadly died two weeks ago), Mabel and Betty. it was the 1st day when they arrived and they were 16 weeks old, bless em! I love it too!

As for my Mum... :? She is refusing to go in my back garden and look at them! :notalk::wall::talk2hand:

 she'll come round in her own time! I can't quite believe how silly she's behaving, but there you go!

The intros are going ok - all very slow. Mabel and Betty have settled a bit now. Betty sneaked in the cube run trying to pinch their spinach on Sunday! I was just throwing some in and there she was  but it was fine and I just escorted her back out! I have been feeding them treats along the run to try and get them used to each other.

Rosie has the sniffles though, so I won't be getting them too close until she's sorted and I'm certain it's nothing more serious.

They are lovely girls and seem quite tame - they have been feeding from my hand and I have been sat chatting to them a lot!!! I think we are all mad chicken people on here so know you will all understand
