Things To Do In Keswick

Recommended Posts

We're going on our holidays tomorrow - a week camping in Keswick.

Hubby and I have been there a few times before, but not since having the children. Anyone have any recommendations of things to do, places to go? Preferably that don't cost very much. The boys are 6,4 & 1, so the places need to be pushchair friendly. Especially need some ideas for rainy days, although so far the forecast is looking ok

Thanks for any help :D

Thank you :D

Thought about The Pencil Museum, but wasn't sure how interesting the boys would find it. I see on their website though, there's a children's area.

Had a look at the website for Puzzling Place, that looks fun, has anyone been there?

We wanted to go to the car museum, as our eldest is a James Bond fan, but I found out it's closed and moved to America :(

Just looked at Theatre by the lake and it doesn't seem to have anything on suitable for kids. All the shows have strong language in them :(

Just going to look at the pencil museum. We went to a toilet museum in Stoke on Trent last year. Was quite informative, if a little smelly. Wish they didn't feel the need to recreate everything from yea olden days :vom: There was also a tile museum next to it which I really liked but bro in law dismissed as boring :(

We're actually driving to Harrogate tomorrow & staying overnight with the in-laws. Then we're all going over to Keswick on Saturday. In-Laws have a caravan. S-I-L is coming too with her 2 little boys, who are 6 (on Sunday) and 3. Should be good fun. It's hubby's 30th birthday on Monday, so I'm hoping in-laws will have the boys for a bit & we can go for a meal somewhere.

To the boys are excited about going camping again is an understatement. They haven't seen their granny & grandad since February either, although they seem more excited about seeing the dogs again

Went there - it's more interesting than you'd think (and you get a free pencil too!). They have the world's largest pencil there too.

It's such a shame that the Cars of the Stars AND the Bond museum (which was virtually behind the pencil museum) have closed. I think I lucked out when going there last year!

The town centre has a decent market on a Saturday if I remember rightly.

We're back :D

Thanks for all the suggestions.

We had a fab week, with great weather, it only rained one day.

We walked into Keswick a few times, we played crazy golf (which the kids loved). We went to a Forestry Commission place called Whinlatter, which was really nice with stunning views & a really good children's play area. Lovely gift shop too, I could have spent a fortune in there :anxious:

We went the pencil museum, it was really good. They handed us quizzes and competition sheets for the boys. They had to look out for sea creatures & draw them. They got some colouring pencils for a prize. We spent ages in the drawing/colouring room, where we had fun with the watercolour pencils. Thoroughly recommend.

Plenty of fish & chips and ice cream was eaten, a good time was - mostly - had by all!
