Silkie breeders in the Sussex area?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for reputable breeders with silkies in my area - I know there are some, but I wonder if anyone round here has any experience or recommendation of any particular breeders, (even if they didn't buy silkies, but another breed) - I want to be sure before I buy that they're well looked after etc. I can travel about 30 miles East, West or North, so Surrey, Hampshire, East Sussex, parts of Kent etc. aren't out of the question!

I got three unsexed Silkies from Racheal at Hamble Valley but, unfortunately, they all turned out to be boys

However, I have since got some beautiful ladies from Alison Ingram in Warnham nr Horsham (she has a website). She has some growing on at the moment at several different stages and a mix of colours and is choosy as to where her birds will go as she likes to be sure they will be looked after and have enough space.

I have two gorgeous golds, one bearded and one without and a lovely little pale partridge, all with bright turquoise ear lobes :D . She is very nice and will happily accomodate a no pressure visit to show you her birds but I bet you do not leave empty handed  .

You buy unsexed and that's the risk. Gosh silkies are so hard to sex, 2 of mine were 22 weeks before I finally felt confident to say they are girls, and then my 2 x 15 week olds, I'm happy 1 is a girl but the other I am still unsure of. Although I have rehomed one definite boy as I could sex him at 10 weeks :D

Warnham would be ideal! I shall look her up.

I looked up Hamble Valley but the website has no address or location apart from 'Hampshire' :(

I'm in love with silkies :D

EDIT: Wow! what a talented lady - her artwork is lovely! I might come back with more than just silkies if I visit her!

As Warnham is a lot more nearby than Hamble, I'm visiting Alison this weekend - she's been very very kind and accommodating and I'm hoping to pick up 2 gold bearded silkies when I get there! She was very grateful of the recommendation Wendy :)

Of course, I'll post pictures when the new girls get here - I'm so excited!
