bluebear100
Hi All Just recently one of my silkies has been laying eggs without shells. They have oyster shell in a separate dish which they have always eaten before. So far have found 2 shelless eggs in their run and yesterday I found an egg in the nest box which had ridges all over it. She was a year old in June. Their diet consists of organic mash, they fr every day and have some treats including meal worms, corn on the cob, a few grapes, fresh water every day.... Any ideas why?, is this painful or dangerous? Not sure which chicken it is but they both seem fine in themselves. Thanks in advance. moochoo
Firstly I'd stop free ranging for a week and stop all treats too. This will ensure she eats just mash and is getting enough nutrients to form a shell. If after a week she's still laying softies I'd add a calcium supplement to her water like Davinova C. To be honest will enforced layers mash eating I'll be very surprised if she doesn't improve.
