craftyhunnypie
I've got 3 girls, one boy - woohoo! 2 plain feathered & one frizzle girl. Then a frizzle cockerel. All from different parents, so totally unrelated for breeding from. Obviously I will have to separate the frizzle girl from the remaining trio, to prevent over frizzling of any future hatchlings. But she can go in with Bingo & Tiddlywinks. Bingo desperately needs some new ladies - so it's all worked out good! My chicks are 6 weeks this coming Saturday & I'm trying to get them off heat. They are now not having their heatpad on from 8am to 8pm. They are fine with that. After Saturday it won't be switched on until we go bed. Then finally they will be without. Griffin
Well done, that's a brilliant boy/girl ratio And the pictures are where?????
craftyhunnypie
Tonight I'm trying them without the electric hen. Cleaned them out earlier tonight & they were just not bothered about the electric hen. So I thought right you little devils, mummy is removing it. They are in a room with a radiator that works via a pump off the back boiler from the fire, so not totally freezing cold. They are absolutely fine up to now. Pics over the weekend. craftyhunnypie
Reckon you'll really like Gladiator Lewis! I can't decide what colour he is. He's frizzle with brown tips on the end of his feathers, very unusual. You'll be meeting them very soon. Got to order them a little house & run. Would love to be able to house every trio & quartet etc in an eglu, but it really would cost me a fortune. Especially with all the hatching plans I have. Space Chick
Fab news Emma... So when do we get up to date pictures
craftyhunnypie
We built the chicklets nursery today ( chicken coop & run). Ok it's not an eglu, but for the price I have to say I am impressed - it is well made & ideal for bantam trios / quartets. I can see me having more of them for my chicklets. Obviously, the ideal would be to have 100's of eglus, but the purse doesn't allow! If the wind wasn't so flippin' awful coming of Banc Gwyn, then I'd have taken a photo. We built most of it in the kitchen, then carried it out & finished it off outside - hoods up, battling the wind! They are 7 weeks now & off heat, will let them have a few hours play time on nice days, still in the brooder cage on the patio & will assess how they go on. They are lovely little tame things, love a crop tickle & Gladiator has made his first funny croaky cluck today, rather than a tweet! craftyhunnypie
Chicks had their first bit of fresh air outdoor play today for a couple of hours - in their Guinea pig cage. They loved it - all the other chickens noseying in at them, all the diffrent noises & the sunshine. Yes we do sometimes have sun in Wales! They can go out again each day, so long as it's not too windy or wet. Emma.x
craftyhunnypie
Chicks outside now in their cosy new coop. Lots of bedding, very happy little things. Had to adjust the ladder up to the coop - steps were too wide, so our neighbour made us some more struts to go on the ladder board. A couple needed help to be shown where the bed is. But all tucked up - very successful! Hate it when chicklets have to go out eventually, as I love taming them inside. Ah well, should have some showgirl /men chicks soon. (see other thread).
