New girls *pic heavy*

Wow you have such beautiful chickens. The chocolate dotte is gorgeous and I am so  of you having a bantam maran and aracauna. I have struggled to find breeders who had any available near me. As for your big girls... I wouldn't know which one to pick first. They are all so lovely 8)

Mary is probably about 25 weeks old now and showing very little signs of a comb... the three other banties I got at the same time are much more developed in the face furniture department.

Are wyandotte banties just slow to mature in general? At the moment, she just has a very wide centre parting!

That's funny because my bantam dotte still looks very immature next to my Pekin who is about the same age

Dogmother, I keep looking back at your photos especially the one of Jude  OH is looking decidedly worried now  I wondered if you would recommend an Ancona as a suitable breed for a relative newbie? I have seen them at shows and thought that they were so attractive but would love to know if one might fit in with my little flock. Do they need to FR all day for instance? Thank you.

I'd recommend then wholeheartedly, Jude is a hardy girl with great looks, she's also a very friendly chook who follows me around and generally gets under my feet. :D She doesn't need any more free ranging than the other girls, sometimes they are out all day, others half a day, occasionally not at all. She lays pretty little white eggs reasonably regularly.

From experience they all mature at different rates, just like other breeds... and humans. They will mature slower at this time of the years due to shorter daylight hours.

I'm sure she'll catch up soon then...

It's not holding her back in any way- she's a bossy little madam! Took no time at all to become Norris' second in command
