The Dogmother
Well I have two new girls with a third on the way, in fact I've had them for about a month but just haven't got around to taking any photos Meet Bunty the chocolate wyandotte bantam And her friend Violet the cuckoo marans bantam They are getting along famously and are soon to be joined by a bantam araucana. Not to be left out, the big girls asked for their photos to be taken (although some of them wouldn't keep still ) Front row; Patience (from last year’s hatch), Sadie (who is moulting badly) and Dizzy. Jude the Ancona at the back Prudence (German Langshans Bantam) taking her turn at the front – she’s really gorgeous but hard to get a photo of as she moves so fast. In the middle is Betty, my Barnevelder (a 2006 hatchling) and then Patience on the right. Jude the Ancona, she’s a stunning bird and not a bad layer either Ruby-Chook had been dustbathing after I’d filled it up with woodash from the burner, so she looked like a ghost chicken. Still couldn't get photos of all of them!
Patricia W
They are lovely! Makes me want some more....
The Dogmother
Thanks, they are 'insurance' as I have few oldsters which probably won't make it through another hard winter/moult. The 2 six year olds are rather fragile.

Chortle Chook
I agree, the chocolate one is very pretty. I had a chocolate Silkie except that after her moult she became black Actually all your girls are stunning but my favourite colourwise is Jude the Ancona. I'm Is that what is called 'splash' colouring?
The Dogmother
I'm not sure if it's technically 'splash' or not CC - the end of each feather has a diamond shape of white on it, they are quite precise. I understand that the white element increases as the bird ages and this has certainly been the case with Jude. Almost all of them are rejects from show breeders, I'm not into showing so I don't know much about breed specs, you'd have to ask Tasha about that. Redwing
Is that what is called 'splash' colouring? Its called mottled Lovely pics, I havent seen Patience as a grown chook before, isnt she lovely? They are ALL lovely
The Dogmother
Thanks for the technical term Tasha Prudence is my favourite at the moment... well, when she's not moulting that is. Her black plumage has green and purple iridescence to it and she has big dark eyes. She's one of a trio that follow me around everywhere and are always into what I'm doing. Patience is very striking and her feathers each have a copper coloured vein, shame that she's dim really Next time you visit Tasha, you'll have to come in daylight to see them properly. The Dogmother
Hi Sam. Yes, she's usually a stunning black and white, which made the 'faded ghost look' even more funny. She's a silver laced wyandotte from an old boy called Fred who lives (or lived) near Reading. It's a favourite breed of mine and we've always had one called Ruby in our flock - a sort of tradition Chick wiggle, Patience is a gold laced wyandotte from a hatch I did last year, the eggs were from Redwing's birds and the chocolate wyandotte is one of her pullets from this year; she's not show standard but that doesn't bother me. I'll take some more photos when they're done with moulting and back to their usual splendour
Groovychook
Lovely girlies! Bunty is my Mary's long lost twin! Mary is probably about 25 weeks old now and showing very little signs of a comb... the three other banties I got at the same time are much more developed in the face furniture department. Are wyandotte banties just slow to mature in general? At the moment, she just has a very wide centre parting!
