Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

We got Dolly aka Squeak from Cotswold Chickens back in June this year, and she has blossomed and grown and become such a loveable chook, but she only squeaks!

She doesn't bok bok, she hasn't let rip and run down the garden yelling her head off (like the other two), she just waddles along and squeaks.

She is doing everything else the others are doing apart from just squeaking.

The noise she makes is like one of those squeaky toys you get dogs - it is soo cute but I just wondered "Do speckledy's just squeak".

Does anyone know??

My speckeldy boks. She doesn't have much of comb though and seems a bit underdeveloped. She squeaks when I grab her out of the tree she tries to roost in at bedtime to put her in the Eglu

Some hens do squeak though. I used to have a pepperpot that was virtually silent but squeaked sporadically (she was top hen!) and on very rare occasions had a fair pair of lungs on her.

 

I currently have a sussex bantam chicken of fate that only ever squeaks...

I once had a hen that didn't ever grow out of cheeping; she laid plenty of eggs though so it must have just been a voice box thing.

I am very glad to say that Dolly is laying an egg every day. Although when she lays her egg, she is off the nest box as quick as, time sat on the nest box is time not eating!!!

And she doesn't just squeak occasionally, she squeaks ALL THE TIME.....

My speckledy doesn't bok and doesn't tweet.... she makes a sweet little noise that we like to call a "twitter".

We've got a Speckledy from Cotswold Chickens too, called Daisy, and of the 3 hens we got from them (a Goldline and a Bluebelle as well) Daisy actually has the gruffest 'bok bok' and mutter. She is very pretty but not as bright as the other two and she trundles round after them like Violet Elizabeth after Just William. Either that or she seems to drift off into her own sweet world. And she takes AGES to lay her eggs. Just shows how different they all are even when supposedly the same breed!

My Speckledy is also called Daisy, also very vocal and a bit dim!
