Unsecure chicken perches

Hi guys,

Does anybody have experience of using automatic pophole openers? I'm thinking of investing in one of the kind you can use with a timer on them. I know they are expensive, but I want a bit of extra security. I'd really appreciate any comments about them, or advice about which ones are good (or not good). Thanks in advance.

I have one designed to work with a Forsham ark (so not the most widely available type). It's brilliant though, and gives me peace of mind that the girls will be locked away safely if I'm not around to do it myself - especially useful with winter on the way - and it lets them out at dawn in summer, which saves the pyjama dash down the garden

 

It's also great for when we go on holiday, as my neighbour doesn't have to come in 3 times a day to open up, lock away and check for eggs. She can just pop in once a day for cleaning/food/water/eggs. Last time we went on holiday, my neighbours actually ended up having to go away for a couple of nights due to a family emergency, meaning my parents who live 4 miles away were left on hen duty. They are quite happy to help out, but understandably don't really want to be making an 8 mile round trip several times a day to check on the girls. The auto opener made it easy for them as they could come up just once during the day to check all was well - a real added bonus of the kit in my opinion.

Will you be fitting you auto opener to an Omlet Eglu Go or do you have a different hen house you'll be fitting it to? I only ask as I'd like one for my Eglu Go as I can't remeber what it's like to be in bed after 7am even on a weekend

Hiya.

The automatic pophole is for my girls who live at my field, they live in a big wooden shed! I'm going to be fitting it to the door of that. So I cant be of much help re whether they work with omlet houses or not. Hope you can find out from somebody else though

do you have them in a run? Can't you leave the door open all the time?

i never shut the doors on my cube or eglus and i get a lie in!
