NFMC
My three chickens (that I've had a week and a half!) spend most of the day free-ranging in my suburban garden. They appear to be eating all sorts of garden greens, worms, slugs, and little treats (grapes are their favourites) and also peck at the layer pellets that I've left in their feeders. Is this OK? Is there anyway that I can stop them eating the stuff that they find and stick to the pellets? Other than keeping them in the run for extended periods? Or is it something I really shouldn't worry about?
Chucky Mama
Mine have pellets available at all times and free range all day. They seem to be thriving on it and lay well
poppy ben grace
Hi there, i wouldnt worry to much, my pekins free range and just nibble at the pellets. Like you say unless you confine them to the run there is nothing you can do! Maybe lay off the treats you feed them, the odd few wont hurt but best fed at the end of the day and in moderation! Be thankful that your hens get to enjoy a natural lifestyle, they must love it!
memphisto
Like Chucky Mama, mine free range all day and have pellets in their feeders which are in their pen, so they can access them at all times. Have you tried your ladies with tinned sweetcorn yet, mine go hell for leather for the sweetcorn!
