Luvachicken
Today, I noticed my smallest chicken Phoebe, looked a bit sad. She has a very bare bottom due to being pecked by one of the others and I wondered if she could be cold ? But then I managed to pick her up and give her a cuddle and noticed her little comb and wattles were quite pale. I have 2 others who have a lovely shade of red, and 1 who is a pinky colour but not laying ( she was very poorly in the Summer) and then poor Phoebe whose colour I'm not really sure how to describe - poss sort of pale orange but I don't know really. Any ideas what the problem could be ? I intend putting some tonic in the water tomorrow and hope that does the trick.
Tweety
Has she been moulting? One or two of mine are looking very pale and wan at the moment, but they have all had quite a severe moult. I am giving them Lifeguard to help them through it, and hope that a tonic will help your little Phoebe
chickencam
They do go pale when off lay and their combs look much smaller too. You don't say how old she is. If she is 18 months plus she is probably getting ready for a rest during the winter, but if she is still young it might be worth worming her and checking her over for lice and mites both of which can lead to anaemia. I have a pale youngster who is subdued at the moment and I have been worming them this week and have added a tonic to their water and some apple cider vinegar which helps keep their gut healthy. If she is moulting try Total Moulting Solution in their water, it perked my old girls up about 6 weeks ago.
Plum
Yes I'd check the house for red mite as well, but it may be because she's moulting.
Redwing
Phoebe is a bit older than the others, just under a year old now so she could be coming in to moult The tonic will help Barred dottes do have a more yellow skin so when they go pale they do have a very unattractive tinge!
