Havent posted for a while as so much has happened here chicken wise.......

 

In May my lovely hybrid warren Tiffany developed peritonitis and was going to the vet every 4 weeks for draining - I allowed this to continue until her quality of life went down hill and so she was pts. At the same time my hybrid white star Stella had a prolapse and so there was no hope for her.

Soon after my pure breed black cochin had to be pts due to a bacterial infection - she was only 21 months old.

 

At this point I got three bantam orpies which was a great success as after only two weeks they were all integrated with my cochin Eleanor and hybrid Molly and best of friends (probably due to the sudden changes in the flock)

 

Finally 3 weeks ago my last hybrid Molly had to be pts due to crop problems after 3 days at the vets so last weekend went out and bought 3 LF orpies - Summer, LIghting and Storm.

 

I can never imagine my life without chickens - no matter how heart breaking it can be sometimes!

Chickens, they bring so many highs and so many lows, but I agree they enhance your life so much.

Sorry to hear about your girlies dying but good on you to get some newbies. I'll do exactly the same thing when my flock gets depleated. Chickens are just such good day in day out smile makers.

Aw Laura, i know exactly what you mean, they break your heart and pass on to the great flock in the sky but still we get more. They bring so much joy and happiness and the garden would just be so sooooooooooo boring without them now.

I cant ever imagine life without chickens either

Sorry to hear about your losses. Once you've had chcickens for a certain period of time, it becomes a bit of an inevitable regular occurence (which is all the more sad, I find).

My banties next to my large fowl are great... I have a little Silkie that really has it in for one of my large fowl columbines, easily 3 times her size, but she puts her in her place every day

Ditto with my pekin SC she is my littlest bantie and boy oh boy does she stand up to the big girls!

Yes the intros should be fun here - my smallest bantam orp is scared of nothing and quite happily chases the cat out of the garden
