Is your dog's unusual barking a secret code for something mysterious?

Dizzy my ex batt rescued 6 months ago was rather quiet yesterday....eating but standing around alot with tail down......also very clear watery poo with some urates and "solids" in there. Her comb and face is very red , her comb was dark blue at tips last night but red again this am.

 

I brought her in last night and she drank loads - the same this am. Her crop was full last night but hadn't emptied fully over night...it wasn't hard tho just felt like grainy. She also feels very warm underneath.Since I've had her she has never laid an egg....and I only had her as during the resuce they thought she was a cockerel

 

Left her in the run today just stood by the grub drinking more water. I have put some lifeguard in it so at least she is getting some goodness if not eating.

 

I think her body is shutting down .....would appreciate any ideas to what is is or anything else I can do. Poor little thing.

Sorry to hear about poor Dizzy. We had a hen whose crop wasn't emptying fully by the morning and after a trip to the vets where she was given an injection to speed up her digestive system and liquid medication at home (given on small pieces of bread which worked really well), she recovered in a few days. I think the vet said she had gastric stasis.

 

It sounds like a trip to the vet may be a good idea if she's not eating, unfortunately the symptoms could be down to a number of different things and I'm certainly no expert.

Please take her to the vets. Drinking lots can be because of a yeast infection in the crop which can be treated with antifungals but I expect there are other causes too.

yes off to the vets please, as also it an be an indication of an infection and they are drinking as they have a temperature and trying to cool down..

Dizzy was put to sleep this evening

 

It was what I suspected.....a tumour in her tummy which had grown to a size that it was blocking her digestive system. The vet believed to be slow growing and to explain why she had never laid an egg.

 

Will always remember her for her first experience of rain....she didn't know what it was and tried to duck down to get away from it

 

Least she managed to stuff a load of mealworms down before she went to free range forever with the big flock in the sky

Very sorry for your loss. Dizzy was one of the lucky ones though, you gave her some freedom and that is more than many battery hens get sadly. Sleep tight Dizzi.
