Henergy
Hi there. As a family we have been considering a dog now for a while & now feel that this summer the time will be right based on our childrens ages (they'll be 11, 7 and 5). My husband works from home & I'm a housewife so we should be fine with time that we can devote to a new puppy. We have looked at lots of different breeds & narrowed it down to a Cockapoo or similar. I just wondered if anyone here had one & could maybe post a 'grownup' picture - all the ones I've seen are of puppies. Plus any tips on how to find a breeder etc would be good. Thank you,
laurmurf
I've socialised a few puppies for Hearing Dogs for Death People and they are very keen on training cockerpoos. We've had one for 9 months and then a few for the odd week's holiday cover. We think they are lovely dogs. No shedding (for a first cross) although they do need grooming and no smell; Very biddable and people focused; Very easy to train; Not a noisy or high energy breed; and they are absolutely charming puppies and lovely dogs. I'll try and find some pics of Kodi who we trained for the longest period. Hearing Dogs get their pups from their own brood animals but I believe these brood beasties are related to others near High Wycombe. Do make sure you get a 'first cross' - a cocker spaniel and poodle first generation cross to get a non-shedder.
quickcluck
Hi Lisa. We have lots of Cockapoos where I take Finley training. They all seem very friendly and very lively!!! However, they do seem to train well, and the owners appear to be happy and in love with them I've not heard any horror stories of chewing and destruction. The words 'handfull' are used alot, but thats the same of any puppy!!! Do you have a local dog training centre you could contact to ask about the breed, or to go and meet some puppies after the classes? Good luck! Mum
Never heard of them until this post so had to look them up. O.M.G! They are just adorable!!!! I'm in love
clucker1
If you get one, don't leave it unattended! A friend of a friend left one tied up outside a shop and when she returned, it had gone. I think they are quite ££s so probably sold onto a loving family and some BAD person made a stash.
Henergy
That's terrible Clucker1 !!! What is with some people ??
clucker1
What was even more terrible was, the puppy was bought to help the family get back to living again as ther Dad had died a few months before from cancer, leaving wife and 3 children. The puppy was tied up outside a newsagent.

The puppy was tied up outside a newsagent. Oh that is dreadful That poor family. Was the dog microchipped? Some of the breeders I've looked at microchip before selling the puppies (which I think is a brilliant idea). I have two housecats and they are microchipped. The only downside of that is, because of their breed if they did get out and someone got them, I doubt they'd be rushing off to the vets with them they'd just sell them on. pips_pekins
What a terrible thing to happen to that family. I would never leave our dog outside now as there seems to be so many being taken around here. It's just awful. I've seen images of the cockerpoo and they do make very cute puppies but they are so expensive . They seem to be almost double the price of a miniature poodle or cocker spaniel. Is there a particular reason you are looking for a cross of these two breeds? I think I would get one of each instead of the cross

Henergy
Just realised that I didn't update !! Anyway, we saw the puppy, fell in love & collected him a few days later (after a bit of panic buying !!). We named him Dexter and he is now 15 weeks old. Here are some pictures He was as good as gold at night but was not good with toileting & so many a messy time was had but he's settled now. Plus he was a bit of a bitey thing but a bit of training & benefit of a few weeks has reduced that too. We love him to bits - so happy with our decision.
