Which birds would you recommend ...

Recommended Posts

... to add to a small mixed group of two Columbines, one Bluebelle and one Black Star? All around two years old. I have an Eglu Cube (cube green) for their main house, and an Eglu (green eglu) for sick/naughty ladies as required.

I fancy getting one new girl who lays dark brown eggs (to add to the current lovely mix of two green, one copper, one light brown) and another girl who is either ginger or buff coloured.

Tips on integration of new ladies to a group would also be most welcome - thanks for your help! :D

A burford brown and a warren would go well.

As for intros, I would use the Eglu for intros and gradually let them free range together.

With regard to the Eglu... What size run do you have.... As sorry to be a party pooper, but if you are looking to add 2 to your existing 4 I would say you need at least 2 run extensions.... The house size is fine, but the run is not.

Thanks Space Chick - I have a 2m run extension, but don't really use it as they have their own enclosed 'free range' corner of our garden (approx. 9m x 4m in a wiggly organic arc) around the base of two large trees, and in amongst some shrubs.

My clever husband has rigged up outer perimeter netting using some of the Omlet fence posts and netting, chicken wire to the base and lightweight bird netting draped from the trees so that they are enclosed and safe from our cats, our JRX, the fox and the local sparrowhawk who likes to drop headless baby blackbirds in the pen from time to time ... :)
