Couperwife
We have been thinking about doing this, after last summer when we went to the lakes and walked for miles, and loved every minute of it. Has anyone ever done it? Or know of people who have done it? Do you have any tips? We will be planning properly, getting the right kit, and booking into hotels to guarantee a good nights sleep It's rather exciting Cathy X
Space Chick
Sounds fabulous Cathy OH and I walked a bit of it some years back as a detour on the way to Edinburgh
bluekarin
I edited a video for a company which organises charity treks, one of which was Hadrians wall. This is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P50Hhlbpr3M if you'd like to see. Not my best editing, so apologies for it, but it gives you an idea of what the walk is like. Some spectacular views
Olly
My brother-in-law did it - or rather a bit of it - a couple of years ago, his walking companion got a stomach bug and they had to finish early but he was enjoying it until then. I think they took a tent with them, I'm not sure how easy it is to find accommodation up there at suitably spaced intervals. I bet there are companies who will transport your luggage between stopovers (for a price!) and organise it all.
laurmurf
OH and a group of his friends did it last year over a long weekend, they loved it! Started in Newcastle, the initial bits weren't fab but they loved it when they got to the country. they stayed centrally and drove to the bit they finished each night then one of the group - a fell runner - would run back to the car to pick it and the group up to bring them to their accommodation. I can also recommend the tea rooms at Birdoswald, run by English Heritage and a friend of mine and great tshirts at the end of the walk too! Go for it, Cathy! Lewis
Sounds good! (for you to do, not me )
rabbitfluff
You'll love it. I did it 2 or 3 years ago and really enjoyed it. The first day's quite flat and a bit of a trudge but it gets better and prettier as you go along. The views on day 4 (out of 5) make the achey feet and blisters all worth it. I think you have the right idea staying in hotels. We camped, often on sites that were a bit off route, so we lost quite a bit of time trudging back and forth to campsites and taking the tent up and down. That's probably my biggest regret - that we didn't get to see as much of the interesting stuff along the route as I'd have liked. No real tips other than enjoy it. And maybe wear a lighter, comfy walking boot. I wore a big heavy robust pair, but I don't think the terrain requires it so you just end up with very achey feet. Oh and Lanacane anti chafing gel! This was worth its weight in gold, though where it was smeared shall forever remain between me and the Lanacane.
Valkyrie
Didn't do the whole lot, but a section of it. Fabulous. It would be great to do the whole lot, but I like my creature comforts and camping is not on my agenda any more. Go for it Cathy!
Couperwife
Well, we are still talking about it, and both getting excited about the planning, so looks like its going to go ahead Yay Cathy X
Valkyrie
Then you can play Robin Hood and the Prince of Thieves when you get to that section. Who wants to be Kevin Costner?
