New hens not going into Eglu Go Up

Have just had very worried child run inside to say there were some Red Kites swooping down into our garden. Just went out side and there are no less than 9 birds overhead. Have never seen so many birds all together. Have put my girls away . Why so many Red Kites gathered all together? Would they attack my girlies? I thought they only went for carrion?

Welcome to the forum. Don't think the kites would take a full sized chicken but have heard that they do gather ian numbers. I think I saw something about someone feeding them and they would gather, I am sure someone on th forum has mentioned them so they might be along with advice.

We get a lot of red kites here, often 3 or 4 but sometimes in larger numbers. A lady a couple of houses away feeds them or used to, not seen her do it for a while.

 

The red kites often sit in our neighbours large tree that is only a few feet away from our chooks and they have never shown any interest in our chooks.

They only go for carrion so your chooks will be safe.

Maybe you should take a picture of them next time? It would be an interesting sight to see, I'm sure.
