heth1986
One of my lovely new girls laid her very first this morning just 2 days into moving in with me It was, however, frozen by the time I came to collect it I know everyone says not to worry about the chucks getting cold under their duvets but seriously, a frozn egg?! Is this normal???

Egluntyne
In this weather, yes, it isn't unusual.
Mum
Congrats on your egg Oh! on it being frozen! I have heard of frozen eggs from chooks, not experienced one. Must have been quite a time lag between the laying and the collecting which, in this weather, would have been the root cause. Was it still in a condition you could scramble it? If not, I think I would have boiled it, mashed it (with shell) and fed it back to my girls.
heth1986
I got up early to let them out and went straight back to bed for a little lay in to be honest! By the time I had gone back out it had frozen so I guess she must be an early layer! My OH decided that he absolutely MUST eat it seeing as it was her first one so he defrosted it in a bowl of luke warm water and fried it apparently it was fine, I'm not convinced
lindafw
The only reason you can freeze eggs in their shell is because the shells usually break... as this was not the case its no problem yolks can get a bit gelatinous (or so I am told) but with an egg as fresh as is possible it shouldn't be a problem
