auntielizzie
Bessie hasn't really got back into the full flow of egg laying since her moult towards the end of last year and then what with the snow etc, she's been producing maybe two eggs a week. Today, as it was such a lovely day, I thought I would give the house a good old spring clean. I stripped the whole thing down, completely emptied everything out, gave it all a good scrub (roosting bars and all) then put in all new bedding, diatom, woodchip etc etc. During this time, Bessie was hanging around, getting under my feet (as they do) and as soon as I had finished the nest box she was straight in there . Oh good I thought, as she hadn't laid for a few days. Well, she sat there chuntering away to herself for about half an hour. I went indoors and got in with some other jobs. I looked out of the window and she was out of the house; went to the nest box - no egg. This happened several times throughout the course of the day. In she would go, chunter, chunter; out she would come - no egg. At one point I went tearing outside because she was squawking her head off so much I thought she was being attacked - nope, nothing The girls have gone to bed now and she never did lay that egg Just hoping she's OK and she was just practicing Any ideas? Otherwise she seems in excellent health. Betty by the way is still as reliable as ever

poppy ben grace
Bless her, how old is she, could she be slowing down due to older age??
auntielizzie
No, she's just over a year old I think - I got her as POL in March last year. She just doesn't seem to have got back to regular laying since her massive moult leading up to December I dare say it will all work out at some point, but I'm still learning, these being my first chickens and all (coming up for our first anniversary).
