Eva again..

Recommended Posts

After the problems of the last few weeks with Eva PP laying softies, just yolk and having lots of laying problems I started giving her limestone flour...perfect I thought as she suddenly started laying lovely eggs with no problems..Till today!

She has been a bit lethargic and just strolling around slowly. She went into the nest box and come out with a very poopy bum ..again , the egg she has laid i have never seen one like it before it is and egg within an egg. Yolk on nest box floor with some white and a soft shell around the outside of a perfect egg and it is 90 g....ouch!..so what is that ? Is it another problem. She went back into the nest box an hour ago and not come out.. Oh dear poor Eva she has always had problems . :(

Poor Eva :( . Just a thought but maybe she doesn't need the limestone flour any more :?:

Thank you for the reply , a good thought , I had not thought of that . ...But why are the other girls not affected as they all share the same pelletts etc.,?

Some just get messed up inside and eggs get delayed and then another forms round it. I have one who does this, at least they are coming out. I just clean her bum to prevent flystrike.

Giving extra limestone probably didn't cause the egg in an egg. It may have been she had a shock so it didn't move on.

Now she's laid that you may get other interesting eggs. We've had chains of small eggs joined together before now. :D

Thanks for your replies ...Plum I find your replies interesting .(I always read them ) Eva seems fine today again but with a poopy bum as usual ,I did not know about fly strike but looked it up .. Poor Eva has had problems since we adopted her 8 weeks ago ,she is still young but I reckon that poor Eva will always have a problem onew way or another..

Good news with Eva :D Thanks but don't take my replies as gospel, I'm just amateur and its just my view and what I've learnt.

My Pigeon is almost 4 and laid wonky eggs for most of the last 3 years, is top of the flock and looks great so it's not always bad news :D

I gave calcium and vit D as flour or liquid at first but then you can't just give it to one and there's a chance you are going to mess the others up so she just gets normal treatment same as others. :?

We have a similar issue with little Donna, she is a ex batt, we've had her nearly a year now and has never been quite right. They all sleep in the nest box  because I'm too soft to exclude them. Over the last 2 weeks she has had pooey knickers so has been having baths, the all sleep in the box, but she is the only one with the pooey bottom. I am worming with flubenvet this week to rule out worms, then I was thinking about trying some Beryl's friendly bacteria, someone on here recommended. She lays sporadically, and there was a softie a couple of days ago. In common with you no problems with the other girls. I'm just not sure if it's an egg production problem or a tummy problem. No sign of peritonitis yet thankfully. Any other suggestions welcome!
