Mandymoo
Hello, I have two Orpies in an eglu classic which is in a wir 6ft by 15ft. The black one, Daisy, is very laid back, just how you would think an Orpington should be. However Poppy the buff one is like a mad thing. You can only pick her up if she does the squat, otherwise she runs away. Most of her day seems to be walking up and down one side of the run, even when she can't see me. When I do go down to see them she rushes up and down banging the mesh on the run. Quite often she flies up at you looking for food, I wouldn't want to hand feed her. They are let out of the run most days, into a fenced off area, for anything between 1-4 hours. Once out she storms about the place while Daisy is very chilled, sitting in the sun and preening. Poppy is not aggressive but is so unlike Daisy and what I thought an orpie would be like. Is she just an anomaly do you think and is there anything I can do to help her? Thanks for reading and any suggestions would be welcome.
Daphne
You seem to have got the rogue one The vast majority of them dawdle about and like nothing more than to stuff their faces Most of mine are not keen on being handled, but they will come to you and will eat from the hand. I do have one slightly mad one, it just so happens she is a buff, a bantam. She will jump up for food which is highly annoying, but in her defence she also lays very well, goes broody very well and is an excellent Mum! I put her full speed ahead attitude down to the fact she is a happy healthy hen, so I wouldn't worry too much about yours
Chortle Chook
She is probably just a dominant, demanding madam and a cockerel would soon sort her out, but don't go getting a buff Orp boy as they can be a bit aggressive. I have read that the blak and blue orps are the most gentle.
