No not another session with the old rods trying to unblock our drains - work. We have had a smell at work for ages and we've been told its the drains. Recently its changed and now smells like summats died. I work for the good old NHS as a nurse and recently things have deteriorated so badly - morale is low and the bosses dont seem to care. |The longest serving members are the nurses.

I feel we bare the brunt of the moans - pts and staff. I regularly have a receptionist in my room sounding off or tearful as someone has upset her. Today it was my nursing colleague who went and grumbled at manager. Later when I went up I had to comfort her. I dont mind but frankly I've had enough too. I told the boss that a patient was going to report smell to H&S. Now at long last Rentakill should be in hopefully to deal with it.

 

So I am drained in more ways than one. And in case anyone wonders why I have not said anything - I have but as usual its fallen on deaf ears. I am fed up - rant over.

Thanks all - you lot always cheer me up. Well it appears we have a Roland(rat for those too young to remember this 'orrible puppet rat on GMTV) whose popped his clogs under the floorboards. We have been told we have to wait till hes a skeleton before smell goes . There are several things that could be done - floorboards up and removed said rat , bait and wait for them all to die.

Googled rat decomposition - can take 4 weeks to die. My worry is that if they poison them they will all go somewhere cosey to snuff it. I can at times work in another room but not always. One of the other staff and i are getting headaches - prob stress. The urge to ring in sick is huge. The receptionists continue to harrang me for TLC and moaning. Throughly fed up. If OH was working I would leave and do agency but worry re the job security,however I feel anything but secure. Sorry to moan. Ali x

4 weeks is about right I'm afraid.

 

It would be a good idea to lay down poison though as you're bound to have more rats around. The poison will dessicate the corpses so they don't usually smell.

Thanks DM - apparently rentakill do a spray to mask smell of rotting rats. I have asked work to purchase. We will see what happens - it will go one of 2 ways - nothing or nothing. Meanwhile I am slowly going mad mad mad.

Sounds like you could do with a team meeting to address a few issues.

They dont "do " team meetings - why - cos we'd probably be there all day - easier to shove probs out the way - called "The Titanic effect" aka a sinking ship.

It depends on how they are handled; it needs to be planned and an itinerary drawn up/adhered to. I ran one here recently after a staff member wasn't pulling their weight and everyone was moaning, it has to be kept off the moaning/lynching theme though and you need to draw up aims and plans to get there etc.

Generally in the NHS it does turn into a mega moan. I might suggest to our manager but she is sooo stressed she seems to be close to tears I just dont want to push her over the edge. i have a day off now so will shut off from work and enjoy being at home.
