Sooo much pooping

Hi folks... We are fast getting the chicken bug- we so love our girls and their delicious eggs. My other half is keen to build a permanent wooden run around their eglu go... And tips/ photos would be great for inspiration and how to make it safe particulary!

My only breif is that we can leave room to swap the go for a cube in the future!

Wow looking at all of those was fun.

Everybody has such lovely spaces.

I've been thinking about a WIR for a while and as Omlet don't sell theirs in 1m width it looks like homemade is the way to go.

How do we go about making it around trees and plants ? I have a small rowan, a spindle tree, one of those rhus reindeer type tree and a yellow pompom thing all growing in their area. Would it be best to just dig them all up or maybe just leave them and have them as bigger Bonsai trees ?

Luvachicken, re plants in the run, I have an unidentified plant growing in my run and it's doing ok (if a little dusty and covered in poo ). I pour the contents of the glug on it before refilling it every morning! You could leave them in as long as you think you can keep them small enough to not grow through the roof .

I mainly wanted a WIR as the cats around here seem to enjoy spying on my girls, and there seem to be more of them these days. One the other day was massive and my girls wouldn't stand a chance.

It would also be nice for the girls to be left out each time we take our dog for a walk, and they'd have more space if we went away for the weekend.

 

A nice little project ready for 1/2 term maybe

Sorry, haven't been on for a few days - been poorly.

 

As for the trees, it was more the fact that they are tall, and so putting some sort of roof would be a problem.

So I thought if they had a big chop they could be smaller trees instead.

Do you think thats a good idea ?
