He was found chasing cars by the side of a busy main road A friend of my parents fostered for a rescue at the time and took him in, we adopted him only a few days later. He was a lovely, lovely dog and soft as butter, but to be honest not the most suitable dog to have as a pet. He had a huge amount of energy (which we could cope with, as we are a family who enjoy walking) but also a huge work drive (which we struggled with much more). Personally, I wouldn't have another collie cross unless I had the time to 'work' it (e.g. agility/flyball or similar activity) as they get so bored if they don't have an outlet for their work drive. Seagazer Posted May 9, 2012 Share Posted May 9, 2012 Sorry that the other dog wouldn't have worked out. I'm not a fan of collie x either. We had a collie x springer and she was an absolute nightmare. Herding all and sundry and so lively not even spaying slowed her down (jumped the dog gate that night) Its good that your OH has shown an interest though - sounds like a new friend for Riley will be arriving sooner rather than later. If you get now & RIley goes - then the newbie may fret for Riley. If you wait until Riley goes, the right one may not come along when you need it most.. ie: to heal the pain of your loss. Ain't Nobody Here Posted May 9, 2012 Author Share Posted May 9, 2012 I think we've more or less decided that as life with Riley is so easy, we're loathe to rock the boat with a new dog just now. He's still a very happy dog and is doing remarkably well on his medication so we'll just enjoy the time we have left with him (which may even be a few years - fingers and paws crossed ).
